This is my first post in my attempt to keep a more active and accurate journal of what is going on in my Fish room. I have not had time to fully describe my fish room. But I promise I will get to that soon. A goal of mine is to provide you with at least one picture a day from my fishroom. Now, some days may get delayed, but my goal is to provide 365 photos this year of my fish and tanks.
I just moved this pair of BN plecos to their own 10 gallon tank. I threw in a few of their previous fry to grow them out a bit. They were in their new tank 3 days and spawned. The image above is of the male guarding the eggs. He will go into his breeding log and circulate the water around the eggs. I will update you when they hatch. It looks to be around 50-60 nice size eggs in there now.
I prefer the BN pleco simply due to the amount of waste most of this species produce. As y ou can see in this image above, they can be really good poop machines. But, even though they do produce a lot of waste, they sure do a great job cleaning the tanks of unwanted algae.
I feed my plecos raw zucchini and squash (treats) with a staple diet of Algae Wafers. I will also throw in NLS Spectrum Pellets and the occasional brine shrimp pellets for protein. I always keep at least one small piece of driftwood in their tank so that they can munch on that also.
I would love to hear from you and your experiences keeping plecos. Please drop me a line below and let me know about your plecos.
